Flagler Street
Downtown's historic east-west commercial street links the older civic core with Biscayne Bay, rewarding a selective walk focused on façades, public works and changing street life.
Why go
Flagler Street carries the name of railroad developer Henry Flagler and once formed Miami's principal retail axis. Today its interest lies in the mix of surviving early buildings, recent streetscape work and the approach toward the bay. It offers context for Downtown's evolution, but the strongest route uses the courthouse and bayfront as clear endpoints.
What to look for
Older commercial façades amid newer Downtown construction
The axial view east toward Biscayne Bay
Civic buildings near the courthouse end of the street
Useful to know
Walk the central and eastern blocks rather than expecting equal interest along the full street.
Visit during daylight when architectural details and public activity are easiest to read.
