Key Biscayne
A barrier island south of Miami with beaches, parks and broad bay views, suited to a half-day outdoors when weather and transport are favorable.
Why go
Key Biscayne feels separate from the dense city despite its causeway connection. Crandon Park occupies much of the northern island, while Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park and its lighthouse anchor the south. The appeal is space: beach, coastal vegetation and views back toward Miami. Travel time and sun exposure make it a deliberate outing rather than a quick add-on.
What to look for
Long beaches facing the Atlantic
Views back toward the Miami skyline across the bay
Cape Florida's lighthouse and coastal vegetation
Useful to know
Choose either the northern beach area or Cape Florida as the main anchor.
Check weather and transport before leaving the mainland; shade and services vary by park area.
