Lincoln Road

A pedestrian mall crossing South Beach, mixing mid-century urban design, outdoor dining, shops and people-watching in an easy break from the beachfront.

Lincoln Road

Why go

Lincoln Road is valuable less for any single business than for its public-space design. Morris Lapidus helped recast the street as a pedestrian promenade, using paving, shade, planting and sculptural elements to create outdoor rooms. It works as a flexible connector between architecture walks, meals and the beach, especially when heat makes continuous oceanfront walking tiring.

What to look for

  • Mid-century paving, planters and sculptural street furniture
  • Long pedestrian sightlines from Alton Road toward the ocean
  • A mix of restored façades and active outdoor seating

Useful to know

  • Use Lincoln Road as a rest and crossing point within South Beach rather than a shopping destination alone.
  • Business turnover is frequent, so choose current venues after arriving.
