Getting Around Monaco
Monaco is compact enough for many trips on foot, but steep slopes can make short map distances tiring. Public lifts, buses and a harbour ferry provide useful alternatives.
A route from Port Hercule up to Monte Carlo or the Rock is as much about elevation as distance. Walking reveals the streets, while lifts and buses can spare a climb; the ferry offers a crossing between sides of the harbour.
Useful to know
Check a route’s elevation as well as its distance before setting out on foot.
Look for public lifts or escalators when moving between Monaco’s upper and lower streets.
Confirm current bus routes and harbour ferry service before relying on them.
