What to see across Monaco
The Rock and Monte Carlo offer the clearest first contrast: palace and old streets above the sea on one side, Casino Square and the opera house on the other.
Why go
A first visit works best when you choose a few connected areas. Explore Monaco-Ville for the Prince's Palace, cathedral and Oceanographic Museum, then cross the harbor to Casino Square. For a different perspective, go uphill to the Jardin Exotique area or follow the waterfront; both show how the city fits into its steep coast.
Useful to know
Give the Rock enough time for its streets and at least one major indoor stop rather than trying to cover every attraction.
Check current admission and event arrangements before making the palace, casino or opera house the center of the day.
