Why go
This guide helps drivers decide where the vehicle should stop being the default. A car may serve a regional journey or outer destination, but Metro and walking usually handle the historic center with less uncertainty and fewer parking decisions. One secure parking base removes repeated central decisions.
The full story
Moscow's roads radiate from the center and intersect several major rings. That structure is legible on a map but demanding in traffic, where a missed turn can produce a long correction. Central streets offer limited stopping space, and parking, access and payment rules change. Confirm secure parking with accommodation before arrival and use current official road information rather than old fines or anecdotal claims. Do not leave luggage visible. For Red Square, the Kremlin, central museums and theatre districts, park once and switch to the Metro or walking. A car becomes more reasonable for a broader road trip, heavy equipment or destinations poorly served by transit, though outer estates may still have event-specific access rules. Navigation software is helpful but not authoritative when streets close. Plan the destination entrance as well as its address, keep enough fuel or charge for congestion, and retrieve the car when leaving the central sightseeing area rather than every morning.
