Why go
A district-first plan prevents distant anchors such as Nymphenburg Palace, Hellabrunn Zoo and Allianz Arena from being treated as quick extensions of the centre. It also reveals useful clusters, especially around Marienplatz, Odeonsplatz and the Kunstareal, where several strong choices sit within one walk.
The full story
Altstadt-Lehel contains the densest concentration of first-visit landmarks. Marienplatz, Frauenkirche, Viktualienmarkt, the Residenz and Odeonsplatz can be linked on foot, though major interiors quickly turn a short loop into a full day. Northwest of the centre, Maxvorstadt is the better base for museum decisions: the Kunstareal groups the Alte Pinakothek, Glyptothek, Lenbachhaus and antiquities collections around broad squares and university streets. Schwabing begins beyond the Siegestor and meets the English Garden, where the scale changes from façades and galleries to waterways and lawns. Nymphenburg, west of the centre, deserves a separate palace-and-park block rather than a rushed detour. The Isar corridor connects the Deutsches Museum with green banks and, farther south, Hellabrunn Zoo. Olympiapark and Allianz Arena occupy different northern sectors and should not be confused as neighboring stops. Treat these districts as planning units, then select one or two anchor interiors within each.
