Why go
Sri Ksetra, southeast of modern Pyay, preserves the scale of an early Pyu urban center, with walls and traces of water management. The modern town grew as a river transport point in the colonial period. Pairing the archaeological site with the riverfront helps separate those two eras rather than treating Pyay as only a stop on the way north.
What to look for
- The broad Ayeyarwady River passes beside the modern town.
- Sri Ksetra’s walled archaeological landscape lies near Pyay.
- Shwesandaw Pagoda rises above the town’s low hills.
Useful to know
- Give Sri Ksetra its own block of time; it is outside the modern town center.
- Check current site access and local transport before setting out.
