Dhammayangyi Temple
Dhammayangyi is a large, separate brick temple on Bagan’s central plain. Its heavy mass and surviving corridors offer a clear contrast with the more open shrine compounds nearby.
This monument stands as its own mapped temple within Bagan, and its scale changes how the ancient landscape feels up close. Walking around its exterior and any currently accessible passage gives a more tangible sense of Bagan’s brick building tradition.
What to look for
Walk around the temple’s massive brick exterior.
Notice the contrast between its enclosed form and nearby open pagodas.
