Shwezigon Pagoda
Shwezigon is a gilded pagoda in Nyaung-U, separate from the temples of Old Bagan. Its active pilgrimage setting offers a different experience from Bagan’s quieter archaeological interiors.
Why go
The stupa is a distinct landmark in the northern part of the Bagan area. Its continuing role as a place of worship, documented by substantial pilgrim visits in 2026, makes it useful for understanding the living religious landscape alongside the older temple sites.
