Real Albergo dei Poveri
This enormous former welfare complex faces Piazza Carlo III. Its façade is the dependable reason to stop; plan an exterior look rather than an assumed visit inside.
Ferdinando Fuga designed the Albergo as a place where people in poverty could live, work and learn trades. Its long façade makes that ambitious Bourbon project legible even from the square. It is a useful stop for understanding how royal Naples tried to reshape the city beyond its palaces.
