Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park
This open park below the State Capitol turns Tennessee geography and history into a walk. It is a useful outdoor counterpart to the nearby Tennessee State Museum.
Why go
The granite state map, Pathway of History and 95-bell carillon make the park more than a lawn beside the Capitol. You can read the state’s geography at ground level, then connect those details to the museum’s indoor exhibits nearby. It gives the surrounding civic district a geographic frame.
What to look for
A large granite map lays out Tennessee’s counties and rivers.
The Pathway of History marks events across the state’s past.
The Court of 3 Stars and carillon refer to Tennessee’s regions and counties.
Useful to know
Pair the open-air walk with the Tennessee State Museum nearby.
Expect little shelter while crossing the mall in strong sun or rain.
