Three paintings from Joachim Beuckelaer’s Four Elements turn air, fire and water into scenes full of food and daily activity. Take time to pick out a few of the things being sold or prepared. These pictures reward looking beyond the first crowded impression.
The paintings are in the Room 15 stair area, a circulation space beside the gallery about artists learning from earlier art. Keep stairs and doorways clear while looking. Room 16 is closed, so continue by the open gallery route shown on the map.
