Sagarmatha National Park
Sagarmatha National Park protects the Everest region's steep valleys, forest, glaciers and high peaks. Visiting means planning a mountain route, usually over several days.
The park makes the Khumbu more than an Everest photograph. Trails pass through changing vegetation, river valleys and Sherpa settlements before reaching higher, sparsely vegetated terrain. Choose a route for its full ascent and cultural setting, and prepare for altitude rather than treating the park as a single entrance or lookout.
What to look for
The Dudh Kosi basin cuts through steep Himalayan terrain.
Lower forests give way to shrubs, alpine ground and glacial landscapes with height.
Sherpa settlements are part of the lived landscape along trekking corridors.
Useful to know
Plan the complete trail, overnight stops and gradual ascent before entering the region.
Confirm current park and route requirements with official authorities for your exact itinerary.
