Ashoka Pillar, Lumbini
Ashoka's inscribed pillar is the clearest ancient marker connecting the present pilgrimage garden to its early history. Allow 15 extra minutes beside Maya Devi Temple, without another transfer.
The pillar makes Lumbini's ancient layer visible beside the birthplace shrine. Its Brahmi inscription is a different kind of witness from the temple's devotional setting: a carved historical record in the same sacred garden. Pause here after Maya Devi Temple to connect the archaeological remains with the long history of pilgrimage.
