New Orleans Museum of Art
NOMA combines a broad art collection with a neoclassical City Park setting and the free Besthoff Sculpture Garden, making indoor galleries and outdoor art easy to compare.
Why go
The museum offers a quieter, more visual counterpoint to central New Orleans. Paintings, photography, decorative arts and collections from several regions fill the main building, while contemporary sculpture sits among live oaks, water and winding paths outside. The two settings make a flexible visit in changeable weather.
What to look for
European, American, African and Asian works in the permanent collection
The neoclassical museum façade at the head of City Park
Contemporary sculpture integrated with oaks, lagoons and garden paths
Useful to know
Start inside, then use the sculpture garden as a separate outdoor chapter rather than a quick exit route.
Check both museum and garden schedules because they do not always match.
Combine NOMA with City Park, but leave enough time for the large grounds.
