Why go
The current Cathédrale Notre-Dame-Immaculée stands on the site of the earlier Saint-Nicolas church, which explains the older name still used for it. Its La Turbie stone façade is a clear landmark in Monaco-Ville. When entry is possible, look beyond the princely tombs to the Carrara marble altar and the altarpiece.
What to look for
- The white La Turbie stone façade with Roman-Byzantine features.
- The princely tombs, if the cathedral is open.
- The Carrara marble altar and Louis Bréa altarpiece inside.
Useful to know
- Start with the exterior; check current visitor access before counting on the interior.
- Respect services if they are taking place during your visit.
