Why go
This route follows the city’s story outside the main college circuit. Start with the guided visit at Oxford Castle and Prison, which gives the day its longest historical stop. St Peter le Bailey provides a short architectural pause on the way towards Modern Art Oxford. The galleries then shift the focus to work made and shown in the present, before the Museum of Oxford returns to the people and industries of the city. The short central transfers leave room to spend longer in either gallery or museum without making the day feel rushed. Book or check the castle tour and check the museum and gallery opening days before setting out.
