St Mary the Virgin, Iffley
A remarkably intact Norman parish church in Iffley, with carved stonework that makes a rewarding south Oxford detour when combined with the nearby river.
The west doorway and compact Romanesque form offer an architectural experience unlike the university’s Gothic skyline. Pairing the church with nearby Iffley Lock makes the journey south purposeful and gives time to notice the older village setting, rather than treating Iffley as a quick out-and-back.
