University College
University College, often called Univ, stands on the High Street and contains two historic quads. The Shelley Memorial gives the visit a literary focus alongside the college architecture.
Univ traces its foundation to William of Durham's bequest in 1249, though its most visible courts are later. The Main Quad and Radcliffe Quad show successive phases of rebuilding, while the Shelley Memorial recalls a former student through a striking sculpture. Together they offer more than a facade-only college stop.
What to look for
The Main and Radcliffe Quads show different phases of college building.
The Shelley Memorial contains a sculpture of the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley.
Logic Lane divides the college site.
Useful to know
