Why go
This is the simplest place to see Palermo's street plan and Baroque stagecraft at once. Each facade repeats a structure of fountain and statues, with seasons, Spanish kings and patron saints arranged above the passing streets. It works best as a pause between nearby monuments rather than a destination requiring a long visit.
What to look for
- Four matching concave facades around the crossing
- Fountains and statues rising in tiers on each corner
- The intersection of two major historic-center streets
Useful to know
- Pause at more than one corner to see the repeated design rather than treating the junction as a single facade.
- Combine it with nearby San Giuseppe dei Teatini for an interior counterpart to the square's Baroque architecture.
