Santa Maria dello Spasimo
Lo Spasimo is a roofless, unfinished church in the Kalsa whose open nave now serves cultural events. Its empty arches are the attraction rather than a conventional furnished interior.
The missing roof lets you read the scale of an ambitious church that was never completed. Walk through the late-Gothic arches and consider how the space has changed from religious project to performance setting; it makes a distinctive stop among the Kalsa's otherwise enclosed churches and palaces.
What to look for
An open sky above the unfinished nave
Late-Gothic arches framing the empty space
A historic church reused for cultural events
Useful to know
Check current access before crossing the Kalsa for it.
Expect an exposed, open-air space and arrange the stop around weather and any scheduled event.
