Teatro Politeama Garibaldi

The colonnaded Politeama and its bronze quadriga dominate Piazza Ruggero Settimo. Its exterior makes a useful bridge between Palermo’s historic core and later city.

Teatro Politeama Garibaldi

Why go

Giuseppe Damiani Almeyda’s nineteenth-century theatre has a broad, open character unlike the more formal Teatro Massimo. Walk around the piazza to see the entrance arch, outer colonnades and sculpture together. Concert access depends on the orchestra’s program, but the exterior remains a clear stop.

What to look for

  • Colonnaded exterior
  • Triumphal entrance
  • Bronze quadriga

Useful to know

  • Plan this as an outdoor stop and allow extra time in poor weather.
  • The walk toward Teatro Massimo links two very different theatre exteriors.
