Getting around Pattaya
Songthaews, shared pickup taxis with bench seats, cover many short trips in Pattaya. Their route matters more than the vehicle's appearance, especially between the beach, Naklua and Jomtien.
A songthaew is useful for the central streets when you know which way it is travelling. Pattaya's Beach Road and Second Road form a common downtown circuit, while trips beyond it may require a change. A hired songthaew or taxi is more direct for a specific cross-town destination, but it is a different arrangement from a shared ride.
Useful to know
Check the route and direction before boarding a shared songthaew; ask your accommodation to mark the route on a map.
Use the onboard bell to signal your stop, then pay when you get out.
Agree on the fare before taking a songthaew as a private hire or using a private taxi.
