Darwin
Darwin is the Northern Territory's harbour city on the Timor Sea and a base for the Top End. Tropical wet and dry seasons shape outdoor plans more than in southern capitals.
The harbour setting, tropical gardens and Top End history offer several ways into the city. The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory covers regional art and Cyclone Tracy; the waterfront has a distinct recreation area. Darwin is also a planning base for wider journeys, including Kakadu, rather than a substitute for visiting those landscapes.
