Mar Chiquita

A narrow gap in limestone lets Atlantic water enter Mar Chiquita’s half moon cove. The limestone rim and Atlantic opening make the cove’s geometry visible from the shore.

Mar Chiquita

Why go

Come for the striking landform and shoreline photographs; entering the water is only sensible in calm conditions. The beach is most compelling as a landscape: waves pass through a tight gap into a curved basin. That movement can be beautiful to watch and photograph, while also explaining why water conditions deserve more attention here than at a sheltered pool.

What to look for

  • Cove framed by limestone opening to Atlantic.

Useful to know

  • There is no lifeguard; avoid the opening and rough water.
