Why go
The neighborhood gives a geographical answer to a common planning question: where is the city’s LGBT social scene centered? Its position beside Los Muertos Beach also makes it easy to combine a beach visit with an evening in the same part of town. Check current venues and events separately.
The full story
Puerto Vallarta’s LGBT travel story is closely tied to the city’s growth as a resort and to its links with Guadalajara. Visitors from Mexico, the United States and Canada increasingly chose the city in the late twentieth century. Over time, Zona Romántica on the south side became the center of the visitor scene, with bars, nightlife and lodging clustered around its streets and the nearby Los Muertos shore. That concentration helps you find your bearings without assuming every part of the city offers the same scene. The neighborhood is also part of a wider waterfront walk, so you can understand its setting in daylight before deciding where to spend an evening. Public LGBT events have become part of the city’s calendar, though their dates and formats change. Check current organizers or venues when planning a particular event or night out.
