Boca de Tomates Beach

At the bay's northern edge, Boca de Tomates combines seafood palapas with a wild river-mouth setting. Strong surf makes this a meal and shoreline-watching destination, not a reliable swimming beach.

Why go

Come to Boca de Tomates for seafood under the family-run palapas at the north end, and watch the active surf rather than planning a swim. The nearby Ameca River mouth and mangroves make the shoreline more interesting for birdwatching, but the tourism guide specifically cautions against entering the water there. At low tide, a coastal walk from Marina Vallarta is another possible approach; check the tide before relying on it.

What to look for

  • Family-run palapas serving fresh seafood
  • Ameca River mangroves and birdwatching; avoid swimming near the mouth
