Rhodes city
At the island's northern tip, Rhodes city brings ancient harbours, a medieval walled town and a modern seafront into one urban visit. Give the Old Town enough time to explore beyond its gates.
The city's compact historic core lets you read several periods close together: the Knights' streets and palace, Ottoman layers and the harbour setting of an older maritime capital. The seafront and Old Town have different rhythms, so they work best as distinct parts of a city day.
What to look for
The medieval walls define the Old Town before you enter its lanes.
The Street of the Knights and Palace of the Grand Master anchor the Hospitaller district.
Mandraki harbour connects the city to its long maritime story.
Useful to know
Explore the Old Town on foot, then set aside a separate stretch for Mandraki and the northern shore.
Check current access before planning to enter individual monuments or museums.
