From the Rio de Janeiro World / Itineraries

Rio’s Classic Landmarks

A focused one-day grouping of Corcovado, Pão de Açúcar, Urca, Copacabana, Ipanema and the Sambódromo, linking Rio’s heights, shore and Carnival setting.

Rio’s Classic Landmarks

Why go

This collection gives first-time visitors a clear read of Rio’s landscape before turning to its beach life and Carnival culture. Begin with either Christ Redeemer or Sugar Loaf, then use Corcovado Train or the descent toward Urca to connect the high view with the waterfront. Continue to Ipanema Beach or Copacabana Beach, and add the Sambódromo for the formal setting of samba-school parades. Treat one summit and one beach as essential; attempting both mountains, both beaches and the Sambódromo leaves little time to absorb any of them.
