Cycling in Rotterdam
Cycling is an efficient way to cover Rotterdam’s broad central districts, with dedicated lanes on many main streets but tram tracks requiring care.
Why go
A bicycle can make the distance between Rotterdam Centraal, the riverfront, Museumpark and outer neighbourhoods feel much shorter. It suits travellers comfortable in urban traffic and able to read the city’s separate cycling infrastructure. The main trade-off is attention: tram rails, busy junctions and an unlocked bike can turn an otherwise easy ride into a problem.
Useful to know
Cross tram rails at an angle to reduce the risk of a wheel catching in the groove.
Lock a parked bicycle securely, preferably to a fixed object.
Choose a rental point and check its current terms before setting out.
