Using the Rotterdam Metro

The metro is Rotterdam’s quickest option for longer journeys across the city, linking central interchanges with districts on both sides of the river.

Using the Rotterdam Metro

Why go

Use the metro when a day’s sights are separated by more than a comfortable walk. Its east-west and north-south corridors make it especially useful for moving between Rotterdam Centraal, Beurs, the southern bank and outer districts. It is less about a scenic route than a practical way to keep a waterfront, museum or neighbourhood plan from becoming overextended.

Useful to know

  • Check the current map and service notices before travelling; line patterns and frequencies can change.
  • Use Beurs as a central reference point when planning an interchange.
  • Leave time for transfers when combining metro travel with a river crossing or tram connection.
