Why go
The palace gives the Dutch monarchy a present-day address within the city rather than a museum setting. Its use has shifted between royal residence, institutional space and workplace, with restoration returning it to royal service in The Hague in 1984.
What to look for
- The central section was destroyed by fire in 1948.
- The Institute of Social Studies occupied the north wing from 1952 to 1976.
- A restoration preceded the palace's return to royal use in 1984.
Useful to know
- Plan for an exterior view unless an official summer opening has been announced.
- Combine the palace with a walk through the surrounding central streets.
