Cathedral of Christ the Saviour
Look at the cathedral from the surrounding riverfront for its scale and reconstructed architecture. An exterior visit gives context without depending on access to the religious interior.
The present cathedral was built in the 1990s after the nineteenth-century church was demolished in 1931. That history changes how the building reads: it is both a religious landmark and a reconstruction. Its position above the Moskva River makes the exterior a useful stop when comparing the capital's older and newer monumental architecture.
