Kazan Kremlin
Explore the citadel for the meeting of Tatar and Russian histories within one hilltop complex. Give the grounds their own time before choosing a museum or religious interior.
The Kremlin occupies the site of the former fortress of the Kazan khans and developed after Ivan IV's conquest. Its buildings preserve several periods of the city's history within a shared enclosure. Walking the grounds offers an overview; separate visits to the mosque or exhibitions add specific perspectives rather than replacing that first orientation.
