State Tretyakov Gallery
Make time here for Russian art and the collection established by Pavel Tretyakov. The gallery rewards a selective visit more than an attempt to inspect everything.
Tretyakov began buying works by Russian artists in the nineteenth century and gave his collection to the city of Moscow in 1892. That collecting purpose makes the gallery a useful counterpart to Moscow's European art museums. The distinctive facade designed by Viktor Vasnetsov also turns the approach into part of the architectural experience.
