The full story
Interstates 5, 8 and 15 carry most road approaches into San Diego, but the best route depends on whether your first stop is Downtown, the beaches or an inland district. Congestion can build around commuter periods, border traffic and major events. Check live conditions before entering the urban area instead of relying on a fixed travel-time estimate. A car is useful for linking Point Loma, La Jolla, Torrey Pines and North County, yet central parking can be costly or scarce. If arriving from Mexico, confirm current border documentation and crossing conditions through official channels. Plan the first parking location before departure; circling unfamiliar blocks wastes more time than a slightly longer route to a known garage or lot. Keep fuel or charging needs in the plan as well, especially when the next day begins with an early coastal or inland departure.
