The full story
San Diego’s Metropolitan Transit System combines trolley lines and buses, with regional services extending farther north. The trolley is most useful for Downtown, Old Town, Mission Valley, the border and selected inland corridors; many beaches still require a bus connection. Build journeys with the current official planner because route numbers, service spans and fares can change. Tap or ticket rules should be checked before boarding. Transit works well when a day stays within one corridor, but repeated transfers can make a coast-heavy itinerary slow. Santa Fe Depot, Old Town Transit Center and major Downtown stations are useful interchange points. Allow a buffer for the final walk, especially at large places such as Balboa Park or Mission Bay where the destination name covers a broad area.
