Why go
The museum's subject links local industry with architecture and construction. Its setting in the former Añorga school, opposite the cement plant, makes the topic tangible; the account of its exhibits includes audiovisual and interactive ways to understand a material used throughout the city.
The full story
Cemento Rezola Museum opened in 2000 to mark an anniversary of the Cementos Rezola factory. Architect Luis Peña Ganchegi adapted the former school in Añorga for a museum about cement and its place in modern construction. The building stands near neighborhood landmarks including the church and the handball court, opposite the industrial plant. Its original interpretation used audiovisual material, simulations and interactive displays to explain a material that visitors more often encounter in finished buildings than in its making. The museum has also hosted exhibitions linking construction with architecture, engineering, design, art and environmental questions. Together, the site and subject offer a different view of San Sebastián: the buildings and public spaces of the city depend on industries that usually sit outside a sightseeing route. Confirm current public access before making the trip to Añorga.
