Why Seychelles' reefs matter
Coral reefs are living habitat and natural barriers along Seychelles' shores. They support marine life and fisheries, while also helping reduce wave energy at parts of the coast.
Why go
A reef is more than a snorkelling backdrop. Its structure shelters fish and other marine life, and it can buffer exposed shorelines. That makes the condition of the reef part of the wider island story, from food to coastal protection. Look closely at the habitat while keeping clear of the coral itself.
Useful to know
Check sea conditions and local guidance before entering a reef area.
Keep fins and hands away from coral when snorkelling.
