Shanghai Grand Theatre
Shanghai Grand Theatre adds a sweeping modern roofline to People’s Square. An exterior architecture stop and a booked stage performance offer different reasons to spend time here.
Why go
Opened in 1998 and designed by Arte Charpentier, the theatre belongs to the redevelopment of Shanghai’s civic center. The glazed building and broad roof give it a distinct presence beside the square. Opera, ballet and orchestral productions make the performance itself the stronger reason for a longer visit.
