Why go
Nantou was an administrative and military center long before Shenzhen became a modern metropolis. Its old lanes, gates and historic buildings make that longer story visible at street level, while recent reuse has brought contemporary activity into the same blocks. Compare the preserved structures with the newer shopfronts; the contrast is the point of the walk.
What to look for
- Historic streets run through the former walled town.
- Gates and older buildings survive among the lanes.
- New cultural spaces occupy parts of the old blocks.
Useful to know
- Start with the historic core before following newer commercial lanes.
- Pair it with Nanshan Museum if you want more context for the buildings.
