Phnom Krom Temple

Phnom Krom’s hilltop temple looks over Tonlé Sap and the lowlands from a ridge south of Siem Reap. Three sanctuary towers stand within the laterite enclosure above the plain.

Phnom Krom Temple

Why go

The climb joins a small Angkorian temple to a broad lake-and-plain outlook. The three towers and laterite enclosure are easier to understand after seeing the view from the hill. The hilltop perspective lets you relate the temple to the lowlands and Tonlé Sap. After taking in the view, inspect the three towers, wall and cardinal entrances.

What to look for

  • Look north across the lowlands toward Tonlé Sap.
  • Find the three sanctuary towers inside the enclosure.
  • Notice the hilltop wall and cardinal gates.

Useful to know

  • Allow time for the uphill approach.
  • Check the temple’s current access separately from the lake shoreline.
