Why go

The stacked levels make the monument’s geometry easy to read from the base to the summit. Its open upper platform also gives a different vantage from the enclosed temples nearby. Start at the base to see the complete tiered silhouette, then follow the climb to the brick sanctuaries above. The open upper terrace puts the surrounding landscape in view.

What to look for

  • Trace the successive terraces up the pyramid.
  • Look for the brick towers on the upper level.
  • Take in the open view from the top platform.

Useful to know

  • Expect steep stairways and uneven stone on the upper levels.
  • Plan a short pause at the base before deciding whether to climb.
