Choosing Siena's main sights
A first visit works best around two clusters: Piazza del Campo for civic Siena and Piazza del Duomo for the cathedral complex. Add a gallery or tower climb according to your interests.
At the Campo, Palazzo Pubblico explains the medieval republic through painted rooms, while Torre del Mangia changes your view of the square from above. Around the cathedral, the inlaid floor and Piccolomini Library reward close looking; Santa Maria della Scala adds the former hospital opposite. The Pinacoteca is the art specialist's choice once its reopening is confirmed.

Start at Piazza del Campo, then decide whether to enter Palazzo Pubblico or climb Torre del Mangia.
