Crossing the Malaysia–Singapore border by road

Two road links connect Singapore with Johor: the Causeway at Woodlands and the Second Link at Tuas. They serve different approaches and both require border checks.

Crossing the Malaysia–Singapore border by road

Why go

The Causeway leads directly toward Johor Bahru, while the Second Link meets western Johor. That geography matters more than any blanket claim about which crossing is faster; traffic changes. Drivers also need to plan for vehicle-entry, insurance and road-charge requirements before reaching the checkpoint.

Useful to know

  • Choose the crossing for your origin and destination, then check live traffic before setting out.
  • For a foreign-registered vehicle, check current Land Transport Authority entry requirements and payment arrangements.
  • Do not plan to walk the road crossings; use a permitted transport service.
