Getting Around Sintra

Sintra’s monuments are spread across steep hills and outlying estates, so choosing a sensible connection matters as much as choosing the sights.

Getting Around Sintra

Why go

The station, historic centre, Moorish Castle, Pena, Regaleira, Seteais and Monserrate do not form a flat stroll. Group nearby stops, allow for climbing, and check current local routes before assuming an older bus number or ticket still applies. The geography should guide which sights you pair in one outing.

Useful to know

  • Check current local transport routes before using the castle and Pena or Regaleira–Monserrate corridors.
  • Allow extra time for steep, winding approaches; the climb to the Moorish Castle is substantial.
  • If driving, plan parking before entering the narrow historic-centre roads.
