Maribor Cathedral
Explore the cathedral setting on Slomškov Square, where Gothic architecture and a later bell tower give the centre of Maribor a distinctive ecclesiastical landmark.
The cathedral's long chancel and changing architectural forms reveal several stages of development in one building. It also holds the tomb associated with Bishop Anton Martin Slomšek, connecting the church with Slovenia's religious history. Observe the exterior at any time during a town walk, and enter quietly only when worship and visitor arrangements permit.
What to look for
Maribor Cathedral's Gothic chancel contains carved choir stalls from 1771.
The cathedral and its bell tower define one side of Slomškov Square.
