Why go
This museum day works well when you want to stay in the city centre and spend most of your time indoors. The Iziko South African National Gallery and South African Museum sit very close together, but offer different ways into the country: art in one, natural and cultural history in the other. The walk to the Iziko Slave Lodge adds the human history of the city itself. Take the first two stops at an unhurried pace and treat the last as a shorter visit if museum fatigue sets in. Check each museum’s current visiting arrangements before setting out.
