Augrabies Falls National Park
Augrabies combines the Orange River waterfall and a deep granite gorge with an arid Northern Cape landscape of quiver trees and bare rock.
Why go
The waterfall is the main draw, but Moon Rock and the gorge show the surrounding geology. River flow changes the falls’ appearance, so this is a landscape visit with seasonal variation. The park’s sparse vegetation is part of the experience, not an absence of scenery.
What to look for
The Orange River drops into a long granite gorge.
Quiver trees stand out against the semi-desert rock.
Moon Rock is a prominent granite dome.
Useful to know
Check current river conditions if the waterfall’s volume is central to your trip.
Prepare for exposed, arid terrain when moving beyond the falls viewpoint.
